Akool, Inc. Biometric Data Privacy Notice
Last Updated and Effective Date: May 30th, 2025
1. Introduction
Akool provides AI-powered synthetic media services, including tools for creating avatars, face-swapped videos, and AI-generated content. This Biometric Data Privacy Notice explains how Akool, Inc. (“Akool”, “we”, “our”, or “us”) collects, uses, shares, secures, and retains biometric data from users who engage with these services. It also outlines our data retention schedule and deletion practices in compliance with applicable laws.
By submitting videos, images, or audio that include your face or voice through our Services, you consent to our collection, use, disclosure, and retention of biometric information as described in this Notice.
2. What Is Biometric Data?
“Biometric data” refers to data generated from measurable biological or behavioral characteristics that can be used to identify an individual. This includes, but is not limited to, facial geometry, facial landmarks, and voiceprint features. For purposes of this Notice, biometric data includes scans or models derived from facial features, expressions, or voice that are used to power features like avatar creation, face-swapping, or AI dubbing.
3. What Biometric Data Do We Collect and Why?
When you upload media to use our Services, we may extract biometric data from that content, including facial geometry and voiceprint features. We process this data to:
-
Create personalized avatars that resemble your appearance and expressions.
-
Enable face-swapping functionality by aligning facial structures.
-
Generate AI-powered videos and images that incorporate your likeness.
-
Improve the accuracy and capabilities of our AI models (only with your explicit consent).
We do not use biometric information for surveillance or profiling.
4. Disclosure of Biometric Information
We do not sell, lease, or trade your biometric information for profit.
We may share this information with a limited number of trusted third-party service providers who help us operate and deliver specific features of our Services, such as AI model processing, avatar rendering, and infrastructure hosting. These providers are contractually obligated to maintain the confidentiality and security of the data and are permitted to use it only as necessary to perform services on our behalf. We do not authorize third parties to store biometric information unless required for service operation and explicitly governed by a data processing agreement.
5. Security and Retention
We store, transmit, and protect biometric data using administrative, technical, and physical safeguards consistent with industry standards and as protective as those used for other types of confidential personal information. However, no system is entirely secure, and we cannot guarantee the complete security of data transmitted over the Internet.
We do not retain biometric information indefinitely. Biometric data from User Input is stored only for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfill the purpose for which it was collected—such as creating and maintaining avatars, supporting editing workflows, or providing continuity across user sessions. You may request deletion of this data at any time by contacting us.
All such data is securely stored on cloud infrastructure provided by Amazon Web Services (AWS) servers located in the EEA or the United States. At the end of the applicable retention period, or upon your request, we will permanently delete any biometric information unless we are legally required to retain it for a longer period.
